Animal Survival Challenge

How can we create an animal and design a habitat that gives it what it needs to survive?

Students began the Animal Survival Challenge by learning about adaptations, the body parts and features that help animals move and survive in their environments. Each student then created their own animal, choosing specific features for survival and movement. Every design choice had a purpose, and students explained how the features they created would support their animal in its environment.

Next, students designed and built a habitat for their animal. They considered what their animal would need for food, water, rest, movement, and protection, then included those needs in their designs.

As students built, they used what they had learned about animals to make decisions. If something didn't work for their animal or meet one of its needs, they had to adjust their design and find another solution. The challenge connected life science, animal adaptations, habitats, and basic needs with design and problem-solving. Students used science concepts to create an animal and an environment that could support it.

During our showcase, students shared their animals and habitats with their families and explained the features they chose and how their designs helped their animals survive.
